Rkidz's Japan Travel Blog - Day 2: Walking around Akihabara

Day 2.

Walking in Akihabara, the holy land of anime. They say that you are not really an otaku if you didn't step your foot in this place yet.

About 20-30 minutes by foot from where I stayed, and 15 minutes or so by train straight to the Akihabara station. The first time i set my foot here, I was flabbergasted by the sheer amount of activities, shops and bustling sceneries that I have no idea what to do first. I said to myself that this is where my kind of people reside. As I venture one by one inside the shops, I was mesmerized by all the merchandise each shop had to offer. From anime goods, figurines, mangas, doujins, games, dakimakura, costumes; Akihabara had it all. Differents goods are sold in different floors, all to cater the customer needs. Popular shop that is a must go for those who want to buy such goods include Mandrake, Gamers, Melonbooks, Toranoana, Animates and some others. There are also a significant number of game arcades lined up that offers various kind of entertainment to guest; from UFO catchers (they are probably rigged), video games arcade machines, slot machines and more. Young girls wearing maid costume are a common sight, handling their cafe's pamphlets to urge visitors to come there. It is truly a marvelous sight to behold.

By night, Akihabara turned into a beautiful lively city with lights shimmering all over the places. People are still busy hustling through each shop while for those who are tired from works goes to the Izakaya to enjoy themselves before heading back home. I had managed to get myself a red bean Taiyaki later on that night since it looks rather interesting. By 11 pm, the crowd began to die out and shop closes, finally done with the busy day.

I spent too much on this place alone, and at this rate I would probably run out of all of my money by the end of the week. Not a good sign. Was it worth it? Totally. Eroges, doujins, artbooks.... I just can't resist. The feeling of exploring adult stores unhindered is euphoric. All the eroges and doujins are a sight to behold, and I assure you that such scenery will not appear anywhere else in this planet. I end up with a sore feet, stiff shoulder, empty wallet and a huge grin on my face as I walked back to the hotel.

Next time, I'll be covering my report traveling to Asakusa. Look forward to beautiful temple, interesting museums, tall tower, exciting aquarium and many more!
