Spring 2014 anime review

Hey guys! Enjoyed this season anime? Hope so. For now, let us review some of the great anime spring 2014 had bring upon us.

  • Akuma No Riddle
I was expecting it would be a thriller anime where each characters freaking murder each other for some rewards. Well, it was, plus all that yuri friendship stuff that makes me cringe sometime. Promising but overall just okay.

  • Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou
Some of the aspects that makes me really love this anime is the art, characters and humour. The lighting and vibrant colour really makes the anime stand out. The characters is also very interesting, to have a masochist, hopeless depressing woman, and a cutie bookworm senpai living and interacting together under one roof. The jokes are not redundant and makes me chuckle each time. The storyline is good, but the ending feels rather unsatisfying. Overall, this is a great anime.

  • Blade and Soul
I have a feeling that this anime was promising early one, but after each episodes, the story gets really boring. Maybe because of the boring main character, like seriously, she barely talks.

  • JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - Stardust Crusaders
It's JoJo. Of course it was epic.

  • Kenzen Robo Daimidaler
The highlight for ecchi anime this season. Mecha powered by ero power? It's great for a while, but gets really redundant each time. And the way they remove the main character halfway, replacing with some other characters is really unnecessary. Still, I like how the humours works.

  • Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei
Still an ongoing anime. But so far, so good for now. It looks more like a detective anime than an action anime though.

  • Seikoku no Dragonar
I watched it for the dragons and characters. The plot is generic with your usual harem theme and fanservices, but overall it was satisfying. I really liked the OP and ED song, it got stuck in my head for a while.

  • Love Live! School Idol Project second season
Nico nico ni~ Idol anime is always good. And Love live is no exception. The plot is a little tense for a while in the beginning during the competition and get depressing when they discussed about the graduation part. Still, the story is light-hearted and ends up on a very happy and cheerful note. But, the animation quality and concert part is superb. Definitely has the best OST this season. Khorosho!

  • Isshuukan Friends
A very simple and sweet anime about friendship and school life. This show give me diabetes for that extra sweetness. The animation looks very cute and nice. It gets a little tense later on, with all that conflicts and stuff, but I'm happy that it gets resolved quiet nicely. Still, the end feels incomplete, and you know an anime is good when you are craving for more.

  • Kanojo ga Flag o Oraretara
This show has a lots of girls. Heck, I don't think its an exaggeration to call it the harem of the season. It's like every single girls around the main character is somehow related and attracted to him. The story is nice and all, at the beginning. But suddenly, surprise plot twist! The show goes crazy with all those alternate reality and stuff just to mess with your mind. I'm okay with it, but it could get better.

  • Mangaka-san to Assistant-san to
A very short anime, but an enjoyable one. Lots of talk about pantsu here and there, but it is one heck of a ride. It's funny, and that is what make this anime shine. The characters are very interesting, and fun to watch. Definitely worth 13 minutes of your time. I was hoping for another season of this anime.

  • Black Bullet
Another great anime this season. The story is really dark and depressing, and there is lots of death here and there. I really love the action and animation, and the OP by Fripside is really awesome. The characters design is good, but each one of them seems to have multiple personalities disorder. The anime also ends with a cliffhanger, and a great WTF. Like, really, What the fuuu~ just happened? Still, it's a very enjoyable and awesome anime to watch.

  • Fuuun Ishin Dai Shogun
This anime has a really nice anime and mecha action. But other than the eyecandy, it has a weird character relationship problem which I don't understand quiet well. It is pretty satisfying.

  • Hitsugi no Chaika
Me. Chaika. Anime. Like. This is a very great anime, with interesting cast line up and enjoyable storyline. The action and fighting scene is also very well coordinated. Chaika talking made me chuckle everytime and her reaction is priceless. Heck, she also made into a meme. Amazing. Overall, this is a great anime to be watched, and I can't wait for the second season later in this year.

  • Ryuugajou Nanana no Maizoukin
This anime have the feels of Indiana Jones in it. While each of the characters have their own unique, weird personalities (seriously, what's with the trap?) the story is kinda heavy and have a lots of plot twist on their own. A great mystery anime if you ask me.

  • Date A Live II
I love this series. Mostly for the characters and design. The story is average, but still enjoyable to watch. The story goes with a light, humour, with a slice of fanservice at the beginning of each arc and suddenly turns rather dark and depressing at the conclusion. The comedy is fun to watch and the drama feels quite intense. I still don't understand why they make it shorter in episode length this time, but at least they will have a Date A Live movie later this year.

  • Mekaku City Actors
The story begins real slowly, and like what SHAFT usually do, with a lots of talking and slideshow stylized animation. The story picks up quite nicely in the middle but falls rather clumsily at the end. I have high hope for this show after each episodes, but the way they explain the story and how they conclude it feels inconsistent. It's like, suddenly this appear, and then this happens out of nowhere. It's good, to a certain extent.

  • Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san
This season another short anime (this one is a lot shorter). At a first glimpse it looks like your average slice of life anime, but actually it had tons of yuri feature in it. Each characters have a very light-hearted animal personalities (cat, dog, mouse, and even monkey) but the story is not that appealing. Well, at least the ending song is catchy.

  • No Game no Life
And finally, the anime of the season! This anime is epic. First, the characters, we have an awesome NEET siblings, where the older brother is a charismatic, unpredictable and hilarious perverted man who take gaming real serious with a goal to conquer the world itself, and his little sister which is your cute, beloved yet very intelligent and calculative despite being very quiet. Then we have their 'pet', Steph, and this weird angel, Jibril. The cast line-up is really great. However, more than that, the story is enjoyable and fun to watch. The way that they handle each challenge is amazing, and I've learned new stuff from each games. My only complain is that the story goes rather fast, and hard to catch sometime. The music are also very good. The ambience and OST really liven up each scene, giving me goosebumps every time. Overall, I have a lots of fun and great moment watching this anime, and it is very memorable indeed. The story still haven't finished yet, and I really hope they make another season of this epic anime.

Well, that's it! Take note that JoJo and Mahouka is still ongoing, thus I can't give an accurate review of the anime yet (JoJo is always epic tho, so no worries there). There are some of the anime that is not on the list, which I've dropped or don't have the time to watch yet, stored as backlog. Don't take it to the heart, alright?

Well, see ya later in the next season anime review.
