A fateful encounter with a mineral girl. Encased in a clear, crystalline coffin, she resembles the beautiful sleeping beauty, only this time it is not a kiss that awakens the fair maiden.

Lay me down on a bed of crystals~

Macrocrystalline quartz basically forms in three geological environments:
  • in silica-rich molten rock during cooling and solidification
  • in pegmatites during and following pneumatolytic processes
  • in mostly watery solutions of silica under various conditions
In any case,  macrocrystalline quartz can be considered as a highly valuable mineral.

Sorry for the delay, but we're back.

And now the protagonist finds himself inside a cave, full of wondrous crystals! Definitely a haven for mineral geologist alike.

And.... that's it. The second chapter was finally done. Now that we've covered most of the fieldwork guide, it's time to shift the tone of our story a little bit.

What kind of shift it would be? Well then, stay tuned for more!

Geologist needs to do a LOTS of walking, to study the wonder of nature and understand them. Being a geologist is indeed one way to keep your body healthy! (I jest, but seriously, there is a lots of walking and climbing to do).

Next chapter (coming soon!)

Take a closer look at the rock, and begin to fiddle with it. Put acid, scratch, touch, smell, taste; use all of your sense to make sense of the rock. That is one of the ways to become one with Mother Earth~

Now we get close and personal with the rock itself. They may look dull and all grey from afar, but up close, they will show a myriad of lithologies.

Dip and strike. The essential measurements in the field when dealing with rock strata. With them, we can tell if the rock is laid conformably, upturned, faulted or even folded.

It doesn't take an artist to know that diagram and pictures are one of the best ways to convey information.

And indeed, this is one of the main reason why I've made this comic. Some people perceive drawings better than just a long string of words after all.

Observation is a vital process in scientific studies. But precise writing on what has been observed is also important, as it is the way for thoughts to be physically expressed. Make sure every detail is described concisely, and organize how each sentence placement. After all, a tidy writing reflects on an organized thinking.

Katsugeki Touken Ranbu: Bushido Spirits Ablaze

Okay. Fine. That was a bit of a serious title for once. Wolvenciel here with another on-time review following last week's anime, Touken Ranbu Hanamaru. Now I'm doing the more action-packed, guns ablaze, younger brother.

The Premise

Before anything, no its not gay. Sure its full of men swinging blades at evil spirits and there's not really much female characters in it but heavens its not gay.

Look at all the boys huh.
Katsugeki Touken Ranbu introduces a different take on the TR universe as a whole in the sense that it doesn't follow the game like it did in Hanamaru. In fact, the story starts by telling you that only two swords are able to be deployed in a certain era to stop the Time Retrograde Army (the bad guys).

P/S: For those who don't know what Touken Ranbu is, its a universe where a sword is given a human body to fight for their masters in protecting history from being altered by the bad guys.

The Focus

Katsugeki's story focuses on Hijikata Toshizou's (a Shinsengumi member) two swords. The brazen, more experienced Kanesada and the timid newcomer, Kunihiro. As the story goes on, they question themselves as to why they need to protect history from changing because sometimes they come upon a situation where bad things happen and they have to just sit still and let it happen.

There's also the fact that they question their own existences as swords and the dilemma that is meeting their previous owners. Because, you know, previous owner means they are probably dead.

Oh. Right. There's also lots and lots of sword fighting.

The Visuals

Okay so we all know the fact that this anime is made by that one studio that excels at animating people poking metal sticks at each other. I admit, it looks so damn good. It really does. Most of the fights are not as impressive as their previous work (Fate Unlimited Blade Works) but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't eye-catching.

They also captured the old japan scenery quite nicely. I'm not that good at talking about visuals though so look at the shots yourselves and be the judge of that.

What I Don't Like About The Visuals

The one thing I hated about this universe altogether is the fact that the Time Retrograde Army is covered in BLACK MIST. Sure it gives off that evil kind-of ominous malevolence seeping out of their bones and swords but I CAN'T SEE THE DETAILS.

Unless the fight is a close up one on one, you won't be able to see through all that black mist. I mean sure, let them give off the mist when they appear. Then stop. It would make the fight scenes so much better in my opinion.

There's also the fact that they can't create battle damage on the hunk of black mists as the swords fight and instead just vanish into thin air right after the sword boys cut them into pieces.

Not-So-Important Stuff

To not end the review(?) in a sour note, for those who really like the cute boys act like the ones they pulled off in Hanamaru, there's still plenty where that came from. Its not too overwhelming and can easily be passed off as a dumb shounen joke attempt at best.

For those who DO play the game, this time around, you can see the Saniwa's face. Yes, he's kind of cool in a sense too I guess.

Anyways, Katsugeki Touken Ranbu is perfect for those of you who likes bad ass fight scenes and jarringly beautiful animation while not actually neglecting the story itself. Its also a very cool way to introduce people who are not familiar with Japanese history and even more so for people who are. I definitely recommend it to anyone who fancy flashy sword fights and some bushido spirit on the side.

Plus it has a kick ass opening. Wolvenciel, out.

And yeah there's also a movie in the future. Probably.

While finding contact between rocks can be easy for an area with lots of exposure and distinct rock type, it can be rather uncommon. In reality, most rocks are covered by drift or weathered heavily that it can be really confusing to look at. There are even cases where the whole succession are basically the same looks and colour from afar (which what happened to me in Wales... grey rock as far as the eye can see...). But fear not, we will cover things that we can do to distinguish them.

Mineral Moe manga - page 23

Page 23

A common mistake for beginners when they got stranded or unable to move is to panic and drain both their energy and spirit. Just remember to calm yourself and collect your thought before your next move.

It might take minutes before you got in touch with people, or in worse case, days. But whatever you do, don't give up hope, and be strong!

P/s: that does feel kinda cheesy, isn't it?

Touken Ranbu Hanamaru: Long Overdue Yamanbagiri Homage

Hey there guys. Its Wolvenciel, back from the grave. Its been like, what, three months now? Yeah. So I actually planned this review for after I did Kabukibu! but things got busy and I got lazy.

In any case, the anime is technically an old one by now but I'll still cover it because I love Yamanbagiri so damn much. Here we go.

WARNING: Lots of pictures. By my standards anyway.

Hanamaru?

In case you still didn't get the idea yet, YES this is more like a bishounen (handsome and beautiful boys/men) fan service-ish anime. It literally spells "flower boy" (roughly translated by me) in the title with a little bit of plot of course, but mostly slice of life fan service.

The butler cosplay I get, but SUNGLASSES??

One more warning, IF you are a decent boy/young man who does not like watching other boys fool around looking cute/funny/cool, stop reading now.

You Said A Little Bit Of Plot?

So Touken Ranbu Hanamaru (TRH for convenience) focuses on one of Okita Souji's swords, Yamatonokami Yasusada. who still feels a sense of attachment to Okita despite being in the care of a new master and living his daily life learning on how to move on with the help of his friends in the citadel.

This boy is Yamatonokami Yasusada. Fetching ponytail I guess.

Just so you know, this little bit of plot is only applied at the beginning and the end of the series and I have to say I am very fond of that. Most slice of life anime tend to start and end their series out of nowhere. That sort of leave the viewers without a sense of closure which leads to rage in the comment section and false hopes of a second season.

Don't be fooled by the intro. Please.

So yes, I appreciate slice of life anime with at least a little bit of plot to introduce and conclude the series. Its an awesome technique.

Based Off A Browser Game

In case you don't know, Touken Ranbu is based off a browser game and everything is almost the same as in the anime. You have a lot of boys around you, they all idolize you for turning them into corporeal forms, and you rage a lot because some hot boy wouldn't come to you through forging (sort of like a gatcha but a hell lot more forgiving if you ask me).

A LOT of boys. Yeah.

So there are quite a few elements from the game that gets incorporated into the anime like good luck charms, chores, missions, expeditions and the general store. So for people who don't play the game, you'd be a tiny bit lost as to some of the terms used in the anime but really, it doesn't affect your viewing experience that much.

Chore division by the captain, also an element from the browser game.

Now the reason I mention this is that for some people, the art from the game is so much better than the art in the anime. I understand this completely. I mean some of them just look downright daddy to me too and suddenly in the anime they look a little more fluffy and a little less manly.

Like this guy right here. He looked like a bad ass in the game.

Watching the anime, you'll need to understand that the art definitely will be different because its drawn by different people and the art style compliments the way the story is told, mild and fluffy.

See that. Dumb and cute.

Why Would You Watch This?

This... is optional. Scroll down to the end if you don't like Yamanbagiri or don't play the game. Really. Okay. So you should definitely watch this for the cute interactions between the swords that you can't actually see in the game and also to satisfy your fantasies. I mean let's be real. Even I watched this for that.

Yeah I became a fan of him during a collab with Granblue Fantasy.

One of the cool things that you definitely should look forward to is their special attack arts. They really revved those up for the anime and if you have your favorite swords featured in the anime, you should definitely watch it. Most of them have a special episode to better showcase them independently as well.

Look at the flair. Phew.

I... watch this for Yamanbagiri Kunihiro. My first sword love ever since I started playing the game. Sure he's just a starter sword but I can't help but love him. Shy and timid at times yet bold and fierce when the need arises. I even had a picture gallery made for him in the blog some eternity ago.

His introduction. <3

Him in the opening.

Him doing a gay joke.

Him blushing. Yeah I was screaming here.

And I screamed here even louder.

GLORIOUS. WOW.
This was me when I saw the whole scene of him with his hood falling off and looking bloody awesome.

Sorry For The Gasms

Anyways. Touken Ranbu Hanamaru is definitely a must watch if you dig boys and swords and cute slice of life stuff. I'm weird enough to like them so I don't know. If you're a boy/young man and you're still reading this, you definitely need to read your warning signs better.

Yes this is your obligatory megane picture from me, Wolvenciel.

I'm not saying you shouldn't watch this or anything, its just that you're better off watching the OTHER Touken Ranbu anime. The one with UFOTABLE as the studio making it. Just saying.

I wasted a lot of my resources for you, damn it. (I still don't have him)

This is Wolvenciel, Signing off.

All these stuff seems menial at first, but remember, it could save your life.

On a side note, for the most part, my battery always run out in the field when I've been using it for GPS and hearing music. There are instances where I forgot to charge my phone prior and I even had an accident where my phone totally broke. As such it is very handy to have a second phone just in case the main one doesn't work anymore.
